Sleep Apnea Machine
Apnea is a problem that is only being recognized seriously by those who suffer from it. In fact, one of the reasons why it’s never been taken seriously in the past is because almost 90% of all people who suffer from it do not even know they have it; let alone what kind of apnea they are suffering from. For those who do know and have taken the sleep apnea tests, they have found different solutions. Some people have taken mild therapies and gone herbal, and others still have even undergone surgical procedures to solve the problem. But one of the safest ways to get around sleep apnea is to use a sleep apnea machine.
The CPAP
One of the many remedies to battle sleep apnea is by using a machine and a mask that will help to free up the nasal passages by adding air pressure. This machine is known commonly as a CPAP or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine. The CPAP helps in the area of respiratory ventilation. This machine basically frees up more space in the airway by regulating the air pressure in the nasal area and towards the lung. A mask is attached to the machine that a user must put over his or her nose and mouth to be able to make use of the machine. The CPAP is especially useful for those who suffer from obstructive apnea. This kind of apnea occurs when the upper airway becomes blocked or narrow because the muscles tend to be in a relaxed state when one is sleeping. This condition reduces oxygen that is carried throughout the body via the blood. The CPAP makes sure that this does not happen by delivering compressed air through the hose and mask and thereby keeping the airway open under air pressure. The result is unobstructed breathing and the reduction if not prevention of apneas. It also eliminates snoring.
CPAP: The Good
The good about the sleep apnea machine known as the CPAP is that it works almost always when it is being used to treat sleep apnea. At a prescribed pressure, the machine blows air inside the air passages to keep them open so that people can breathe easier and snore less at night while they are asleep. This promotes good health since oxygen now gets to the places in the body where they are needed most via the blood stream. CPAP treatments have proven to be highly effective. The machine delivers a painless solution that improves the quality of sleep and the quality of overall lifestyle; this change can be seen almost instantly after a single night’s use of the machine.
CPAP: The Bad
The only negative thing about using a CPAP is that it is most uncomfortable to use. People are not used to having to sleep with a mask on and it might even keep them awake all night for a while. For those who do intend to use one to treat their apnea, it will take some time to get used to sleeping with the sleep apnea machine wrapped around your nose and mouth.
The CPAP is the most common machine used in treating apnea and has proven to be the most effective. Of course, until another solution comes along, people will have to get used to wearing the mask and keeping the machine turned on while sleeping at night.
